POLITICS: 2019 gathers momentum as aggrieved members of the
two major parties in Nigeria along with some other parties plan the formation
of new mega party with sole aim of ensuring that the Buhari led APC does not
return to power in the next general elections. This is may be due to Buhari’s woeful
failure to deliver the dividends of democracy to the Nigerian electorates.
Sources said that the name for the proposed mega party may
be Action Democratic Party (ADP). This is an acronym drawn from the former Action
Congress (AC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Though the name for the
new mega party would be ratified when all major stakeholders from the six
geo-political zones assemble in Abuja on December 19 2016.
Consequent to the ratification of the name for the party and
the structure put in place, detailed document would then be forwarded to the Independent
National Electoral Commission, INEC, to commence the process of full
registration.
“The name of the new party is Action Democratic Party, ADP,
we will meet on 19th December in Abuja to look at the structure and send to
INEC the name. At the meeting, we will determine who would be the pro tem
Chairman. Everyone will be invited, those expected are from the six geo-
political zones of the country as well as the Senatorial districts.
“Our proposed party will come out from the ashes of PDP and
APC,” the source was reported as saying.
Earlier on former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, gave some
stringent condition to support the proposed mega party, allegedly saying he was
not averse to the emergence of a new formidable opposition party.
