BREAKING: MORE TROUBLES FOR SHERIFF AS INEC REJECTS HIS CANDIDATE

The name of the governorship candidate of the Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff group of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party has been rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission. This is because, the Commission said the primary which produced Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen was not done under the its supervision


The Commissions Deputy Director responsible for Publicity and Voters' Education at the commission's central command, Mr. Nick Dazang, expressed this in an instant message to our journalist late on Tuesday night.

According to him, the commission had acknowledged the name put together by the Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.

Pastor Ize Iyamu is the governorship candidate of the Makarfi-led group of the party.

The Deputy Director further stated that the commission had gotten names of governorship applicants from 18 other political gatherings, aside from the PDP.

He alleged, “As at this evening, we received 19 candidates from 19 political parties for the Edo governorship election.

“This includes the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP. We received the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction because of the Port Harcourt Court judgement plus the fact that we monitored its primaries.”

Other political partyies recorded comprises AA, ACD, ACPN, APC, APGA, LP, MPPP, NCP, NNPP, PDC, PPA, PPN, SDP, UPP and YDP.

The two groups had on Monday submitted names of their governorship candidates for the state to the commission.

Both men and their supporters are presently in a serious legal battle over the administration of the opposition party.

The due date for the accommodation of names of governorship candidates by political parties for the governorship election as per the timetable discharged by the commission was midnight of Tuesday. As the election is slated to hold on September 10, 2016.
Meanwhile, Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Cairo Ojugboh, has stressed that his group was depending on the court arrange that requested that only Sheriff group ought to be permitted to submit names of contender for the Edo and Ondo governorship races.

He further expressed confidence that Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekwemwem whose name was submitted by the Sheriff led faction would make the Commission’s list at the end.


He said his group would challenge the activity of the commission, including that the declaration by the court was clear in the matter.
