PDP flays court judgment, says convention must hold as planned

PDP convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in disarray as the he Caretaker Committee headed by Senator Ahmed Markafi ignores the Appeal Court judgement stopping it from organising any convention as scheduled.

While making their position known, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Dr. Walid Jibrin stated that “We are yet to see any judgement suspending the national convention. Whichever way it is, if we decide ‎to appeal and we are given accelerated hearing, nothing will stop the convention.”

As according to him, no external influence will ever succeed in destroying the party. He also stated that there are mechanisms on ground to reconcile all the warring factions of the party.

“We are engaging in genuine reconciliation and mediation that will make us come out stronger to win Edo and Ondo governorship polls, the rerun election in Rivers and capture power in 2019.

“We will get the judgment copy and study it and thereafter take necessary actions.

“But whoever is out to destroy our efforts, particularly the Edo primaries, God will not forgive such person‎ because we have all the INEC documents authenticating the Edo primaries.”

He therefore used the opportunity to appeal to all aggrieved members of the party who have legal battle against each other to withdraw such in the interest of peace and reconciliation.

He also appealed to supporters of the party who may be frustrated by the unfolding events to remain calm and shun personal attacks on individuals.

According to him: “We have observed the interest purported to be shown by some people who are committed to killing PDP. We will X-ray the situation because we are opposition party dealing with issues that will help Nigeria rather than abusing individuals.

“The BoT is up to the task to resolve the problems after due consultation. God will not allow anybody to be used to destroy the party.”
