The
presidency has denied today (1 July 2016) that none of its officials were
listed deliberately to testify against the senate president his deputy and the
two top National Assembly management officials presently being prosecuted over
the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rule 2011.
Senator Ita
Enang who is an aid to the President, made this known at a news conference in
Abuja. He said him and other officials from the presidency listed as
prosecution witnesses, were only going to court as members of the seventh
senate and nothing more.
It was
revealed that Enang and the Special Adviser to the Vice-President on political
affairs, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, were among the 14 prominent Nigerian
registered as prosecution witnesses to appear in the alleged forgery case.
Enang
stressed that this clarification became essential due to the fact that false
publications and insinuations shows they were arranged to testify against the
suspects including the Senate President and his Deputy.
He further
claimed that his name was included because he was the chairman of the Rules and
Business Committee of the 7th Senate which concluded plenary on the June 4 2015
prior to the inauguration of the 8th Senate on 9 June 2016.
The officials
indicted are; Senate President, (David Mark) Deputy Senate President (Ike
Ekweremadu), Majority Leader of the Senate, (Victor Ndoma-Egba), Clerk of the
National Assembly, (Maikahuwa), Clerk of the Senate (Ben Efeturi), Chairman
Rules and Business (Enang) and the Committee’s clerk (Ogozy Nma).
