Some unknown
gunmen operating along the creeks of the Niger Delta killed two AGIP workers in
Nembe, Nember LGA.
According the
Nation, the workers were killed yesterday (Thursday).
The men came
under attack while being conveyed by a boat from Obama Flow Station to Akemplai
jetty when the gunmen attacked them.
As at press
time, the mission of the company’s workers could not be confirmed, however,
some persons stated that they were returning back to their base after repairing
pipelines that were damaged when the militants attacked them.
According to
security source, the gunmen opened fire on them when they sighted the speedboat
conveying the workers.
The source
further said that three of the workers were rescued, while the other two were
declared missing.
Thus, it is
not clear whether the two missing were actually killed or taken hostage by the
gunmen.
