A 40-year-old Shaaibu Yakubu raped and destroyed a 6-months-old baby's intestines

40-year-old man raped 6-months old baby

A 40-year-old Shaaibu Yakubu, who is a deaf teacher in Potiskum, Yobe State, has professedly defiled a 6-month-old baby girl.

The educator was said to have been apprehended on September 1, for assaulting the minor until her digestion tracts (intestines) got devastated.

Reports which drifted on twitter throughout the weekend under the hashtag #JusticeForHajara, had it that the offender purportedly admitted to his wrongdoing and is being granted bail.

Then, the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Defense Corps, NSCDC, Muhammad Gidado Fari, was cited to have said Yakubu Abdullahi, was caught by men of the NSCDC for purportedly raping the infant in the Potiskum territory of Yobe state, noticing that the deaf instructor professedly schemed with his 10-year-old student, who conveyed the infant to him from her neighbor's home and he raped her.

According to Fari despite the fact that Abdullahi denied the claim, the 10-year-old pupil distinguished him in a crowd picture of staff and students taken in the school, including that the suspected attacker was captured after a non-governmental association, National Council of Women Society, NCWS, reported the circumstance to the corps.

Fari however expressed that the matter had been accounted for to the state's Ministry of Justice for indictment as the case required an expert in gesture based communication to decipher.

Further speaking, the President of NCWS, Halima Kyari Joda, on her Twitter handle said the infant was taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for examination and appropriate treatment.

A few Nigerians on the online networking have crushed the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, for supposedly allowing bail to the suspected rapist.

When the news got to Nigerians that the police had granted the alleged rapist bail to move freely, they took a swipe at the entire Nigerian Police Force for such a step.

A few Nigerians on the online networking responded to the development.

See response underneath…
@hrykanu231: “This man should have been stoned to death for this gross act, but if it is talking about one God that cannot fight for himself. Some people will shout blasphemy…lord luggard ur rest won’t be peaceful.”

@ring7: “Mallam, claiming to be deaf….the parent should call him on 3D in the via llage to abort the man’s lfy. Na them. Their trademark is on display here. Next level na 9months pregnant women, comot their pikin and rape am. That is where they are heading to, even the deaf among them are still that wicked.”

@midolian: “The criminal has been released?”

@nnachukz: “If this man was burnt alive, some wld come here to shout “jungle justice”..Now he has been handed over to the police and treated like a jungle king. Since the day I was born till now, I still havnt seen any usefulness of the Nigerian police. Why do we even have them?”

@Diddyydiva: “God!! This is so unfair. Northerners are just so demonic. Shame on the Nigeria Police force.”

@GenBloodykiIler: “how did i ended up sharing one country with these useless uncircumcised bastards from the north.”

@JUSTbuchi: “I really wonder how a guy would see countless big ass babes roaming the streets of naija and would still prefer raping a six month old baby. And the suspect was later released by the Nigerian police, now this is funny.”

CNN comes under attack for being biased against Nigeria

Mark Zuckerberg

The Cable News Network (CNN), has annoyed Nigerians for discarding the nation's name in the feature of a report declaring the visit of Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, to Africa's most busy nation.

But one may ask, could their action be as a result of the blackmail President Buhari on Nigerians when he travelled abroad?

The story said Sub-Sahara Africa as Mr. Zuckerberg's destination.

The Facebook founder went to Lagos, Nigeria's business capital, on Tuesday, and communicated with Nigerian tech business people at Yaba, viewed as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.

“Mark Zuckerberg makes first-ever visit to Sub-Sahara Africa,” read the story, distributed by CNN Africa and shared on its Facebook page and Twitter late Tuesday.

That story speedily started outrage in one of the world's biggest oil producers, with nationals taking to Facebook and Twitter to assault CNN for discarding "Nigeria" and making the feeling that Africa was a nation.

Nigerians who remarked on the matter communicated solid viewpoints, and tried to rescue their national pride.
Below are some of the excerpts of the reactions from angry Nigerians:
“CNN it’s NIGERIA!!!” according to a Facebook user, Iloh Andrew, “I know you are shy to say it is Nigeria…safe, sound and happy to be here…not the Nigeria you propagate as a drop bomb zone.”

Also, Bola Aduwo, another Facebook user said, “CNN please what is Sub-Sahara Africa? An area of over 20 countries. Why can’t you be specific? What will it cost to say Nigeria?”
Mr. Aduwo went further to say that Nigeria is the country with the largest Facebook community in Africa with over 16 million users, and, therefore, deserved respect.

“We can no longer be ignored,” he added. “Receive sense please.”

“If Mr. Mark had gone to a European country, will you tweet this way: ‘Mark makes first ever visit to Europe’ — CNN Africa?”Twitter user @oluwatimilehino asked.

“Ewo ni Sub-Sahara Africa (which one is Sub-Sahara Africa)?” Twitter user @fireofola queried. “Nigeria is too much to mention?”

And again on Facebook, there was one user questioning the news organisation’s understanding of maps.

“Just say he came to Nigeria. If you don’t know where that one is, check your map, don’t be shy,” said a user, Winnie Coco.”

They communicated their second thoughts on in Abuja at a rally over the failure of the administration to take measures to protect the more than 200 school young ladies kidnapped by Boko Haram, in their school in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.

Boko Haram had a week ago discharged a video of the young ladies who are still alive and said they were willing to exchange the young ladies in return for their folks in confinement in different jails.

DRAMA: As Oby Ezekwesili and CP Chucks Obasi turns protest to a shouting match at the Presidential Villa

Chibok girls rally

A range of security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC as well as the Department of State Services DSS today striped the Bring Back Our Girls BBOG advocacy movement from gain access to the presidential villa.

In a bid to awaken the President Buhari led federal government’s urgent attention to the plight of the girls, to help them gain back their freedom as was promised by him during his electioneering campaign, the group had set aside a 14-day line-up of activities to force President Buhari as Nigerians are running out of patience with his government.

The BBOGs protest is collaboratively led by Oby Ezekwesili and Aisha Yesufu, while the police detachment is led by CSP Chuks Obasi.

Drama evolved when Both Ezekwesili and CSP Obasi got involved in a shouting match as the officer insisted that the protesters would not cross the human barricade put together by the security operatives.

“Who is the officer in charge of this command should stop it. The problem is that we still have our members on the highway. For many years, we have been advocating, we have never engaged in anarchy”, says Oby.

She had warned the CSP to stop pointing his fingers at her while addressing her.

“Well, I have my. Mandate and my mandate is to ensure that a protest match does not assume a violent dimension”, Obasi said.

Police arrests man for calling his pet Buhari

Pet named Buhari

A 30-year-old trader named Fortemose Chinakwe, who lives in Ogun State has been arrested by security operatives just because he named his pet dog Buhari. The arrest came after his neighbour who is from the Northern part of Nigeria got that the dog was named after his father, Alhaji Buhari.

The case was then reported to the Police Station in Sango, last weekend, thereafter the police left their criminals they were supposed to go after, and went to arrest the young man for such a flimsy bitterness expressed by the complainant.

Consequently, all the efforts of the police to get the dog apprehended as an evidence were futile, as according to sources, the suspect supposedly told some of his acquaintances to secretly kill and may be eat it, in order to avert any implication.

However, appeals by his friends and relations for the police to grant him bail failed as the complainant and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail.

Family members of the suspect who made attempt to get the man on bail were told that the suspect had been transferred to Ogun State Police Command Headquarters located at Eleweran.

Chiedozie who is relative to the suspect narrates how his brother was being treated in such an unjust manner: “Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him. He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari.

“Unfortunately, some Northerners, who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up. The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.”

Acting Police spokesman in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, ASP, has confirmed the incident.

According to the ASP: “The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true.

“You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest. We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

“He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (today). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing. It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person, you are indirectly insulting him.”

On the whereabouts of the dog, the police spokesman said: “The dog cannot follow anybody except the owner. We will use him as our evidence because he did not deny it.”

The question one may ask is, why will the Nigerian Police stoop so low to give such a sentimental and trivial complaint such a treatment while the criminals they are supposed to go after smiles home and walk freely on the streets daily even when they know some of them?

The world over, people name their pets with human names and nobody uses any security agency to intimidate anyone, provided your pet does not breach into another’s property.

Nigerian Police, you have a long way to go.

Niger Delta Avengers challenges the Nigeria to meet them in creeks

Militants confront Nigerian Army

Despite the purported division among the members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the militant group has thrown up a daring challenge against the Nigerian military to show up in the creeks for the world to see who is who, instead of sitting in their comfort zone to make threats.

The group’s spokesman, popular known as General Muddoch Aginibo debunked report made by the government that some members of the militant group had been arrested.

While speaking, he said that their camp is intact, and that it was ill-fated for the military to be killing innocent Nigerians from the region in the pretence of looking for NDA members out of frustration.

“If the Nigeria military is serious about arresting NDA let them come to the creeks of the Niger Delta, that is where we dwell not the city.

“If I (Brigadier General Moduch Agbinibo) were the Commanding Officer NNS Delta (Commodore Joseph Dzunve) and commander of the so-called Operation Delta Safe (Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie), I would have been in the creeks instead of sitting in the comfort of my air-conditioned office,” the statement read.

Agbinibo went further to warn elders in the region to be careful of the antics of the Federal Government, adding that the government was not sincere about any negotiation to end hostilities and bring about the needed development of the region.

“Can you tell the world the government official you have been dialoguing with? Is it the president? Or is any of the committees set up for it? We respect you our elders, as such stop behaving as if the Niger Delta is a seized region and stop acting like you are begging the government for dialogue.

“The worse the government will do is to bombard our villages and towns in the name of looking for NDA. So, our elders should tread carefully with the Nigeria government. The reason behind military harassment of towns and villages in the Niger Delta is because NDA has not confronted the Nigeria military in battle.

”We are not scared in confronting you. The creeks of the Niger Delta belong to us, so defeating the Nigeria military is not hard for us. We have made it clear on many occasions that our business is to cripple the Nigeria economy not to kill military. The Nigeria military should not think we (NDA) avoiding them is a sign of weakness.”

Northerners engage a British firm in a desperate move to find oil in the region

Northern Nigerian oil exploration

In a desperate move to be counted among oil producing states despite the falling oil price globally, report has it that the nineteen Norther state in Nigeria have pulled resources together to appoint a British company to carry out the exploration of crude oil in the region.

Mallam Bashir Dalhatu who is the Chairman, Norther Nigeria Development Company, jointly owned by the 19 norther state governments said at the weekend that the company had launched its prospect for oil and gas in the Northern region (Lake Chad and Benue basins).

This revelation was made when the company’s board and management visited Kastina State governor, Aminu Masari.

According his statement: “We have engaged a British company that is already working in the Lake Chad region and from Niger and Chad side in the same area with us and we have been meeting with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in order to put efforts together.

“The Federal Government has also re-emphasised to us, during those meetings, its total support for exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in the North-East of the country.”

Public office holders have made corruption official in Nigeria - Bakare

Tunde Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare, confirms the level of corruption swimming within the corridors of those saddled with public trust in Nigeria, which has made corruption official in government on a daily basis.

The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly made this know while launching the Onyekachi Ubani Foundation in Lagos at the weekend decried that: “At the twilight of the military era in Nigeria’s political trajectory, the name “Nigeria” became synonymous with a certain word, a word that elicits the image of a cesspool running over corruption.

“At that time, precisely in 1999, Transparency International rated Nigeria the second most corrupt country in the world in terms of perception, second only to her eastern neighbour, Cameroon.

“For instance, given the unbridled looting of the treasury at the time, reportedly to the tune of over 1billion dollars as was subsequently uncovered following the exit of the military, it was obvious that the abnormal had become the norm, the illegal had become legal, the outrageous had become banal and the aberrant had become the gold standard.

“Despite the emergence of a new government on the heels of a strong anti-corruption campaign, despite the credence lent to this anti-corruption promise by the antecedents of President Muhammadu Buhari, and despite global acknowledgment that Nigeria has taken shovel loads off the peak of this mountain of filth,” he added.

Buhari has failed Nigerians fantastically - Hussaini Mairiga

Buhari disappoints Nigerians

Gradually, the bitter truth other members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have refused to tell Nigerians are gradually being told by some patriotic citizens of the nation, who have put their lives on the line to protect our hard earned democracy.

The latest is coming from a on the chieftain of the party, who is also a chairman of the party in Kano State, Hussaini Mairiga, when he called President a total failure for his inability to deliver the dividends of democracy for the past one year that he has been in power.

While speaking with journalists in Kano, he said “from the looks of things President Buhari has betrayed the confidence of the Nigerian masses who voted for him massively into power.”

He lamented that, the reality is now very obvious that so many family members in Nigeria cannot make boast of a square meal ever since this administration came into power. While others have because shame abandoned their entire family to take cover elsewhere.

He cited an instance where a bag of rice now sell for as high as N16,000, as if that is not enough, the prices of other essential commodities are also on the increase daily. Lamenting how surprisingly it is to see such sharp increase in prices at a time when the ordinary man cannot even afford the least meal on his table.

The APC leader also stated with dismay that virtually all the presidential aids including Ministers none ever told the president the truth about the realities on ground.

Thus, used the medium to remind the President of the various campaign promises he made to Nigerians, and that the level of poverty is inexplicable in the land.

The APC Chairman advised the president to stop deceiving Nigerians that the nation had no money whereas on monthly basis the federal and states governments continued to enjoy boost in their allocations.

He also warned that if crucial steps were not taken to address the current situation in the country, Nigerians would soon begin to die of hunger on the streets.

Northern Youth Leaders Assembly threatens Buhari's critics

Northern Youths Assembly

A group known as the Northern Youth Leaders Assembly (NYLA) have made a declaration stating that President Buhari has performed enormously in putting Nigeria on the path to progress. They also threatened that they will no more accept further attack of any kind, which may also include media the media, which helped him to propagate his propaganda in the run up to the general election on Buhari and his family members.

This threat was issued in statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Yakubu Danlami and the Secretary, Kwuanu Terrence, saying they are no more ready to accept any ‘insult’ to the family and members of the president’s cabinet, and further threatening to mobilize “resources to take on anyone who think they can use their image as a chess pawn in the game playing out in the media.”

“We warn that the north will no longer tolerate any further attack on the image, family and character of President Muhammadu Buhari in his quest to make Nigeria a better place for all. We take particular exception to our Service Chiefs, security personnel and their families being harassed needlessly and we will not hesitate to mobilize our resources to take on anyone who think they can use their image as a chess pawn in the game playing out in the media.”

The group believed that political and public office holders in this current regime are being demonised and proscribed on account of what they stand for, thus making a particular reference to the rebirth of separatist movements and militant groups in the southern part of the country to harass the Buhari Presidency.

They maintained that some of those behind these abnormalities have publicly declared that they are doing it to express their ethnic discontent, warning that this does not bode well for the country’s quest for ‘one Nigeria’.

Meanwhile, the youths have decided set up a media team responsible for countering propaganda against the north. The media team, according to them, will regularly highlight the President’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.

MEND planning to eliminate me at all cost - Goodluck Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan

Nigeria’ Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan raises alarm concerning some threats to his life by some enemies under the aegis of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, as they perfect their plot to assassinate him.

Recently, a splinter group from the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), which goes by the name Reforemed Niger Delta Avengers accused the former President as the grand patron of the NDA with the inclusion of his name in the list of alleged sponsors prepared by them.

An online medium, SaharaReporters, recounted that according to the statement made by its spokesperson, Cynthia Whyte, the RNDA also listed the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, as supporters of the NDA.

Others mentioned in the list were Chief Edwin Clark, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio; ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo); the founder, African Independent Television, Raymond Dokpesi; Kingsley Kuku; Kimi Angozi, and Patrick Akpobolokemi.

According to SaharaReporters, the group further claimed that the NDA sympathisers are Daniel Alabrah; Tony Uranta, Daniel; Ms. Annkio Briggs, and a former spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers also named Oyege Nimi Brown, VIP Timothy, Joshua Macaiver, Paul Bebenimibo, among others, as the main operatives of the NDA.

It also claimed that the President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Udengs Eradiri, aka Brig. Gen. Murdoch Agbinibo, served as the NDA’s chief spokesman.

Nevertheless in a swift reaction, Jonathan, in a statement on Sunday via his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, said the purported list by the splinter group was politically motivated, adding that it was part of assassination attempt to his life.

Here are the excerpts of the press statement: “Since it is not in our place to speak for all those named in the obvious fabrication, we are only intervening to the extent that its hidden intent poses a violent threat to the life of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a committed patriot.

“We are seized by the feeling of déjà vu occasioned by the resurrection of one dim character masquerading as Cynthia Whyte, who had in the past served as the spokesperson for a notorious group that had all along shown its hand to be going after the life of former President Jonathan.”

The former President recollected an assassination attempt made by the same group against him in 2007, after he emerged as the running mate of the late President Umar Yar’Adua. He further narrated how this same group of boys bombed his compound in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, in one of the night he was billed to attend to a very important matter back home.

While speaking, he said, “Do we need to remind anybody that the so-called Cynthia Whyte is the self-declared spokesperson for the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, a violent and murderous underground group led by one Henry Okah, which has not hidden its intention to destroy the former President?”

He also gave an instance of the bombing that took place on October 1, 2010 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, which portrays how violent they are.

He stated, “We have no doubt in our mind that MEND, as a group contracted to go after Jonathan with the mind of assassinating him, has yet to abandon this criminal and ignominious craving. It is in this light that we view the purported statement issued by Cynthia Whyte as not only a sadistic continuation of this sick desire, but also a futile attempt to instigate the Federal Government to needlessly go after the former President.

“Those who have been following the unsavoury developments in some parts of the country since the last general election would have noticed that MEND, its paymasters and other unscrupulous elements in the South-South region have been striving fruitlessly to exploit the ensuing confusion by surreptitiously working for the fulfilment of its yet-to-be declared political agenda.

“We are not under any illusion that more accusations and allegations of this nature would not be hurled Jonathan’s way in the future. But we are very positive that he can never be fazed by such negative energy.”

Similarly, Edwin Clark, also spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Dotun Sowemimo, wondering why he would be mentioned as one of the sponsors of such a terrible crime against the nation.

He said, “The allegation is an attempt to undermine the efforts of the Niger Delta leaders to bring true, lasting peace to the region.

“Clark and other leaders in the region believe in the unity of Nigeria. The list is a cheap lie, which is meant to distract the peace moves by the elders and leaders in the Niger Delta.”

On his part, Wike, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, said the list should be ignored by the members of the public.

Dokpesi, also distanced himself from the Niger Delta Avengers.

Dokpesi in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday in Abuja, said he remained committed to strengthening the unity and stability of Nigeria.

He said, “I don’t know who is giving that report; I have never met any member of the NDA in my life, I have no association with them and I don’t know who they are. I have been committed to strengthening the unity and stability of the country.”

Also denying the allegation, Metuh said he had nothing to do with the NDA.

He said, “Ordinarily, I would not have responded to this, but on this occasion, I have chosen to respond, as this particularly borders on matters affecting national security.

“This is a wicked, cruel and devilish plot to link me with such activities, especially as the claim is outright false.’’

A former spokesman for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, also denied being a sympathiser of the NDA.

Alabrah said in a statement on Sunday that the report was a product of mischief designed to distract the Federal Government from decisively addressing the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta.

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, denied being a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers or any other militant group.

In a statement on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Anietie Ekong, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State described the allegation as “baseless, reckless and senseless.”

The statement read in part, “Senator Akpabio has no link with the Niger Delta Avengers or any other militant group for that matter.’’

Also, a former Adviser to President Jonathan, on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, denied reports linking him with the Avengers.

From the foregoing, one may say that there is something dodgy about all these allegations due to the manner is was released by the supposed group, giving some consideration to their antecedents. However, time shall tell.

Niger Delta Avengers, a divided house

Avengers

Trouble brews as the supposed disintegrated group of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) now known as Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) attempts to rubbish the ideology of the group when it made public some names numbering about 22, which it claimed were the supporters of the militant group.

When contacted, an anonymous source, who is also an Ijaw leader decried that: “It is unfortunate that they have penetrated our boys with money and they are now using them to fight themselves. This is bad for the struggle.”

However, the self-acclaimed Brig. General Mudoch Agbinibo, who is spokesman of NDA debunked any rumour that the group has been fragmented, and went further to accuse a senior government official, ex-governor and former militant leaders in the region under the auspices of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, to announce the purported split.

“It is quite unfortunate that Cynthia Whyte and Jomo Gbomo of defunct Joint Revolutionary Council and MEND respectively are the spokesperson of the Nigerian intelligentsia community because of some political interest and a government that have abdicated powers to clansmen and tribal lords.

”The fact checks about Cynthia Whyte and his sponsors should be laid bare before the public now that the Nigerian security and intelligent community has turned the Niger Delta genuine struggle to a tool of political patronage and money making machine for miscreants and conflict merchants,” NDA said.

Also, the National president of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Mr. Udengs Eradiri, reacted by debunking the accusation made against him by the alleged splinter group of the NDA, who said he was among the sponsors of their activities, saying that: “I have no business whatsoever with the Niger Delta Avengers. I am the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the largest youth organization in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and not Spokesman of the Niger Delta Avengers.”

According to him ”My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly issued by a splinter group of the Niger Delta Avengers in which several Niger Deltans were mentioned as sponsors and operatives of the Niger Delta Avengers, including my humble self as the spokesman of the Niger Delta Avengers, who go by the name Brig. Gen. Mudoch Aginibo.

“Since the splinter group of the Niger Delta Avengers said they have broken away and repented from their old ways, I call on them to come out in open and identify themselves openly, instead of still using pseudo names such as Cynthia Whyte to issue statements.

“Any discerning mind would know that the said statement purportedly naming sponsors of Avengers was issued by the promoters of the Aaron 2 MEND negotiation with the federal government. Their grouse against me is because I said in my recent interviews that MEND Aaron 11 team does not have the mandate of the Ijaw and other Niger Delta people to negotiate with the federal government. They are desperate because of the lack of credibility in what they are doing,” he said.

Eradiri buttressed: “I wish to state that no amount of desperation and blackmail would stop me from stating the position of the Ijaw people as far issues affecting the Niger Delta region are concerned. I was elected to promote and protect the interest of the Ijaw and Niger Delta people and not the selfish and personal interest of a few.”

“I also want to put on record the consistent threat to my life by the promoters of the Aaron 2 MEND negotiation with the federal government. They have been consistently saying that they would deal with me.

He further added that “The security agencies, especially the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) already know them since they claimed to be negotiating with the government and should take note and appropriate actions on this threat.”

In the meantime, spokesman of IYC, Mr. Eric Omare, in a statement, Sunday, called on security agents to stop the indiscriminate arrest of Ijaw and Niger Delta youths under the guise of fighting renewed militancy in the Niger Delta region.

“In recent times, there have been indiscriminate arrests of Ijaw and other Niger Delta youths by security agents without charging any of them to court. So far, security agents have arrested Ijaw youths such as Mr. Simeon Bebenimino, Bomboy Oluba, Aboy Muturu, the Oporoza 10 and several others. The latest of the victims of this indiscriminate arrest is Comrade Daniel Ezekiel, an Ijaw youth from Egebma Clan in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta.

“Daniel Ezekiel, who is the spokesperson of a Niger Delta- based civil society organization, the Ijaw Peoples’ Development Initiative (IPDI) was arrested/abducted on Thursday, August 4, 2016 while on his way from Sapele to Warri in Delta State.

“Up to the time of issuing this statement, the whereabouts of Mr. Daniel Ezekiel are unknown. In the days leading to the arrest/abduction of Mr. Ezekiel, he complained of threats to his life by some persons, who claimed to be working for the federal government and security agencies in the Niger Delta.”

His statement reads further that: “Daniel Ezekiel is a passionate believer in the Niger Delta cause and like several young Nigerians has actively used the social media in articulating the Niger Delta cause. The IYC wonders when it has become an offence to express one’s support for a cause through the social media.”

Omare also included that: “After all, President Buhari is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the social media during the last presidential election; so why the clampdown on those who expresses dissent to his administration through the same medium?

He declared that: “The IYC wishes to strongly advise the federal government and agents of the federal government, including party chieftains not to use the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta as a political tool to arrest and silence opposing voices in the Niger Delta region.”

“There are indications that more opposing voices in the Niger Delta may be arrested in the days ahead on the instigation of some politicians to settle political scores. We call on President Buhari to call the security agencies to order, as indiscriminate arrest of Niger Deltans, especially those expressing dissent to the administration’s approach to issue affecting the region would not do him any good.

“We reiterate our call for those under arrest to be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the rule of law or be released without delay,” he added

Obasanjo's presence in PDP meeting baffles Nigerians

OBJ tears PDP card

They said wonders shall never end as Nigerians surprisingly sighted former President Obasanjo at the Shehu Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, where the inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Party national convention committee was billed to hold and wondered what he was doing there, after he publicly tore his PDP membership card prior to the last general election and pitched his tent with the APC that produced President Buhari.

Though report has it that the former President was at the centre to attend a programme on Agriculture while the PDP leaders were also at the same premises to attend their party’s event.

Interestingly, as the popular adage says, ‘old solder never dies’ leaders of the PDP rushed to pay homage to the former President when he was sighted at the venue.

According to sources, one of the administrators of the building had alerted the PDP leaders of the Obasanjo’s presence in the building.

Thus, immediately the leadership of the party got the information regarding Obasanjo’s presence, they all rushed out to exchange pleasantries with him.

National Chairman in charge of the National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi; the Secretary of the committee, Sen. Ben Obi and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ibrahim Mantu, were among the party leaders that rushed out to pay homage to the leader of the party.

After the greetings the former President proceeded to attend the programme he had come for.

Leaders of the party had been visiting its aggrieved members with the aim of reconciling them with the now factionalised party but they had yet to visit the former President.

Members of the Board of Trustees of the party visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja two days ago.

They had earlier visited the home of a former Minister of Finance, Adamu Ciroma.
