Twenty-two-year-old father who thought fatherhood was the end of his life, has killed his 5-week-old baby boy

Wickens

A 5-week-old baby boy has been killed by his man who happened to be a new father, with the reason that he felt parenthood signified 'his life was over.

The 24-year-old Matthew Wickens, lost his temper when he was allowed to sit unbothered with infant Riley Gardener at the family home in Paignton, Devon.

He shook his child, before pummelling his face into a bunk - making him sustain serious head wounds.

He then more than once lied about what he had done - and even attempted to conceal the infant's wounds by putting a cap on him

His deceits implied Riley's mom, Gemma Gardener, turned into a suspect and was compelled to surrender their other child, Jayden, for 14 months.

Be that as it may, now, Wickens has been imprisoned for six years and five months subsequent to conceding murder at Exeter Crown Court.

Prosecutor Simon Laws QC, said Wickens and Miss Gardener had an 'on-off' relationship during her pregnancy with Riley, with the former notwithstanding having 'an association with another lady'.

He further stated that Wickens had at first seemed fine with having a second child, yet then 'experienced some kind of hysteria and got to be conflicted towards parenthood'.

He appeared to be unwilling or not able to submit himself wholeheartedly to residential life and viewed it as limiting his opportunities,' he alleged.

Be that as it may, regardless of his clear unwillingness, Wickens in the long run moved into Miss Gardener's flat in an offer to 'demonstrate his dedication to their relationship', the court listened.

Mr Laws said Wickens had felt Riley's birth to the world two years back signified 'his life was over' - and that he had felt he would only be a father always and not going out like his companions.

The store laborer, who had wanted to join the Army, 'disliked to be told what I can do and what I can't do' by his accomplice, he said.

Be that as it may, one day, Wickens consented to care for Riley as Miss Gardener and their older child, Jayden, went out shopping, the court heeded.

The was bottle-fed and changed by him, before losing his temper and striking his child - shaking him, before hammering his head face down into a bunk.

In spite of Riley's extreme head wounds, Wickens, who was 22 at the time, then neglected to summon any medicinal help for his child.

What's more, when Riley's mom returned home with Jayden from shopping, Wickens left her to find her ‘dying or dead child' in his bed, the court listened.

He then over and over lied about what had happened - and even put a cap on Riley to conceal a blemish on his temple.

At a certain point, he asserted he had struck his child's head against the metal arm of an infant swing, before dropping him into the room floor.

His falsehoods implied that Miss Gardener fell under the suspicion of the police - and was compelled to surrender Jayden for 14 months while she fought care procedures.

Nonetheless, an after death examination later uncovered that Riley had kicked the bucket from shaking and an effect on November 25, 2012.

Paul Dunkels QC, defending, narrated to the court '[Wickens] wishes to express his deep regret and remorse. He lost his temper and shook Riley and slammed his face down on to his cot.'

He said Wickens had demonstrated weakness and self-centeredness to not say what had happened straight away at the level in the Winner Street region of Paignton.

He included that the litigant may have been drained in the wake of getting up in the night to see to Riley while working extend periods of time, yet that was no reason since guardians need to go ahead.

While making his sentence to Wickens, Judge Francis Gilbert QC let him know it would remain a 'heavy burden for the rest of your life that you killed your own child'.

He included that the litigant wished he could get back to former days and that it had 'all been an awful dream'.
