The leadership tussle in the Peoples Democratic Party seem to be fading gradually, as the two factions are working out strategies to bury their disagreement. Also, the decision of the electoral umpire to identify with the party’s gubernatorial candidate produced by the Senator Ahmed Markafi led faction sends a strong signal that not too long from now, all the crises in the party will be a thing of the past.
To ice it up, the nation’s electoral umpire, the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it recognises only the Caretaker
Committee headed by Senator Ahmed Markafi in line with the Federal High Court
judgement siting in Port Harcourt.
The Commission asserted that it is basing its decision to
recognise the Sen. Ahmed led Caretaker Committee on just two basis, which
are; for the purpose of organising and conducting party primaries of political
officers, and the submission of list of the party’s candidate for any election
which INEC will conduct in the country.
After the INEC decision was declared, efforts were made to
contact members of the Sen. Sheriff’s factions of the party, but, they all
declined to make any comment on the issue, rather, they said that efforts were
being made to work a strategy.
