The University of Sheffield Southern Africa Student Scholarship Fund (SUSASSF)

University of Sheffield Scholarship


In partnership with SUSASSF, the Department of Geography is inviting applications for Southern Africa Student Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to a student from Southern Africa to pursue postgraduate programme.

The programme is designed so that students experience development theory alongside development practice.

Study  Level: 
Scholarship is available for pursuing postgraduate programme.

Course Subject:
 Scholarship is awarded to study on one of the following courses: MA International Development, MSc Environmental Change and International Development and MPH International Development.

Scholarship Award: 
The scholarship offers the following support:
·         A full tuition fee waiver
·         Maintenance for University accommodation and a monthly stipend

Eligibility:
·         You must have applied to study on one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield, starting in 2017: MA International Development, MSc Environmental Change and International Development and MPH International Development
·         You must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
·         You must be self-funded to receive this award, i.e. not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organisation.
·         This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
·         Your mode of attendance must be full time.
·         Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
·         Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2017.
·         You must be a national of and permanently domiciled, in one of the following countries or territories: South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland and Namibia

Global Scholarship for Excellence at the University of Birmingham

University of Birmingham scholarship


The University of Birmingham, College of Medical and Dental Sciences is offering a number of Global Scholarships for Excellence for outstanding students to pursue postgraduate taught programmes.  

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.
Study Level:
 Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate taught masters programme.

Course Subject:
 Scholarships are awarded in any of the courses offered by the Medical and Dental Sciences.

Award: 
The value of each award is £2,000 to be off-set against tuition fees, is tenable for one year only and cannot be deferred to a later year. As the award is to be off-set against tuition fees, applications from self-funding individuals are preferred.

Eligibility: 
This award is open to all applicants who have applied to study on one of the College of Medical and Dental Sciences Masters taught courses listed below (full-time or part-time), or the Physician Associate Postgraduate Diploma programme, starting in 2017/18.

How to Apply: 
Scholarship selection will be based on your programme application. There is no separate application required for the scholarship but candidates should be in receipt of an offer by 31 May 2017. Any admissions application submitted later than six weeks before the scholarship closing date is not guaranteed to be processed in time.

The Programme
  • As part of our commitment to develop talent in Afnca, Nestle Nigeria is seeking self-driven, motivated and qualified young individuals to equip with technical skills at our Technical Training Centre in Agbara, Ogun State.
  • The programme will last for 18 months
  • Participants will be engaged in rigorous theoretical and practical trainings
  • They will be exposed to industrial work experience in the various plants within the factory
  • They will participate in continuous assessment processes and apprisaIs
  • The programme will focus on three (3) core disciplines:
    • Mechanical maintenance activities
    • Electrical / Instrumentation/Calibration maintenance activities
    • Introduction to Automation maintenance activities
  • The training program will lead to the award of a Nestlé Certificate of participation. In addition, trainees will be prepared and enrolled for City and Guilds of London Technician Awards in Engineering.
  • The five (5) best performing students at the completion of the programme will be exposed to a 3-month internship in engineering practices in a Nestlé Factory in Switzerland as a major contribution of the Swiss government to support Nestlés drive to up-skill Nigerian technicians.
Learning Facilities
The state of the art Centre is located in the Agbara factory. It is equipped with the following facilities: Modern classrooms, standard library, computer and technical drawing rooms, electrical, instrumentation, automation and mechanical workshops.

Entry Requirements
  • Candidates must have obtained the following qualifications not earlier than 2016
  • Minimum of Lower Credit in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) issued by a Nigerian Polytechnic in any of the following (or related) field of study:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical and Electronics Engineering / Electrical / Installation & Maintenance Engineering
    • Applied Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Mechatronics)
    • Applied Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering
    • Industrial Measurement and Control/Instruments Mechanics Work
    • Automation Engineering
  • In addition; candidates are required to have five (5) O-Level credits or its equivalent obtained in one (1.) sitting in the following subjects:

2017 Nigeria LNG price for Literature


The Nigeria Prize for Literature - The yearly literary prize is endowed by Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited to honour the author of the best book by a Nigerian within the last four years. The prize rotates among four literary genres - prose fiction, poetry, drama and childrens literature. This year, the competition is for Poetry. The competition is open only to published works by Nigerian writers irrespective of place of residence. It carries a reward of $100,000.

Submission Procedure

  • Ten copies of the entry and, if available, an e-copy, together with evidence of Nigerian citizenship (photocopy of Nigerian passport or National identily card), may be submitted either by authors or publishers, in accordance with the genres in competition.
  • Books should be submitted to Nigeria LNG Limiteds External Relations Division, promoters of the prize, by the stipulated deadline. Failure to meet the stated conditions will lead to disqualification of the entry.
  • No book published before January, 2013 will be accepted. Complete contact information, including full contact address, email(s), phone number(s) and other relevant contact Information should accompany each submission.
  • An author will enter only one published work, Mere manuscripts will not be considered. No book previously submitted for this competition may be re-submitted at ci later date, even if major revisions have been made or a new edition published. The prize will be awarded for no other reason than excellence.

Eligibility
The eligibility criteria for Nigerian Award are as follows:

o        Applicants for Postgraduate studies should possess a minimum of first degree with Second Class Honors, Upper Division.
o        Applicants must be registered Full-Time students of Federal or State Universities.
o        All other applicants (UG, HND & NCE) must be registered Full-Time students in their second year or above in Federal or State University, Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education. For all Undergraduate scholarship applicants, (Physically Challenged Inclusive) must be in their second year or above and have at least 4.0 Cumulative Grade Points Aggregate (CGPA) on a five (5) point scale or its equivalent.

General Information
o        The scholarship is tenable in Nigeria and takes effect from the beginning of the academic session.
o        It shall not be held at the same time with another Award nor for part-time students.
o        Change of course or institution not allowed.
o        The scholarship award is to assist the scholar in the payment of (a) Institution charges and fees and (b) Personal maintenance.
