At last a team of surgeons have
been able to make life normal for a baby who was born with four legs and two
male organs by removing the extra legs and male organs in a Indian hospital.
According to the baby’s mum, the
child who was born in January is God’s gift to the family.
Though the parents earlier on reluctant
to take by baby to another hospital for the surgery, but after receiving series
of advice and reassurance, she took the baby to a specialist facility in
Ballari in the western Karnataka state.
The baby’s mum earlier said she
was prepared to raise her son the way he was. However, she said: ‘My first son,
born three years ago, is healthy. We are poor and cannot afford expensive
treatment.’
Dr Virupaksha, who helped deliver
the baby, told the Times of India: I referred the family to Vijayanagara
Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS).
‘I spoke to the surgeons there on
Sunday, and they told me that the baby was being kept under observation. I hope
the baby becomes normal.’
Lalitamma added: The doctors and
members of my family advised me to take the baby to VIMS for for advanced
treatment. Now, I am hoping he becomes normal.’
Dr Divakar Gaddi, at VIMS, said:
‘A team of surgeons is looking into the baby’s condition. It is a very
challenging case for us.’
