Secretary of State for Scotland
David Mundell says that the Scottish people will forcefully join the UK as
Britain exits the EU irrespective of the type of agreement Britain reaches with
the EU.
Mundell while speaking to Daily
Telegraph said “no set of circumstances in which Scotland could remain a member
of the EU after the rest of the U.K. has left.” As re-entering the bloc will
not necessarily be easy.
“If Scotland’s constitutional
position were ever to change, it would have to apply to be a member of the EU
afresh — and we should not make easy assumptions about the length of time this
would take, the process Scotland would have to follow or the terms of membership
that may be on offer.”
This statement is coming as Scottish
first minister Nicola Sturgeon has repeatedly threatened to call a second vote
on Scotland’s independence from the U.K. if she doesn’t think Scottish
interests are being represented by Westminster.
