Nigerian past President Chief
Olusegun Obasanjo has made a case in favour of the Igbos to produce the next
president for justice and fairness to prevail in the country.
This is because since the 1999
when the country started civilian rule, only the people from Igbo extract in
the South-East geo-political region have not had president from the region, but
every other region including the South-South have all had shots of the exalted
position.
Be that as it may, Obasanjo said
it was his own view that the South East people should deliver the nation's
President similarly as the Ogun West Senatorial District in his home state
ought to be given the chance to produce the state Governor.
The ex-President talked when the
administration of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ogun State chapter,
led by Bishop Tunde – Akin Akinsanya went to him at his Hilltop home in
Abeokuta for an unusual New Year service.
He noticed that foul play and
underestimation are the instigators of contentions along ethnic and territorial
lines in the nation.
Obasanjo said it was his yearning
for an equitable and reasonable nation that informed why he worked for the occurrence
of a South-South President in 2011.
“Irrespective of the thinking of
the people ahead of 2019, I personally think that South-East should have a go
at the Presidency too.
“The same is happening here. If
Ijebu and Egba have produced the Governor, it is only fair and just to allow
the Yewa or Ogun West to also produce governor. Or else, one day, they will
also stand up and take up arms against this injustice against them. That is my
personally position on this,” the ex- President said.
