At last the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship
candidate in the just concluded election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede has
announced that he is not going to protest the result of the election as is
being widely rumoured and expected by his supporters.
During a media chat with Vanguard, Jegede declared his
acceptance of the outcome, thus upholding Rotimi Akeredolu’s victory who is of
the All Progressives Congress (APC), in good faith and had moved on in the
spirits of good sportsmanship.
Speaking further, he said, it was needless to engage in any
legal tussle, because the people of Ondo State had chosen their preferred
candidate at the polls.
Here is an excerpt of Jegede’s statement, “I have taken a
decision to move on and I wish Governor Rotimi Akeredolu success, promising to
release an official statement later in the day.
“I speak for myself. I believe that if I cannot serve the
people of Ondo State now, another opportunity will come for me to do so at
another time. I have a profession and I am returning to my law practice.
“There is always need to demonstrate true statesmanship and
that is what I have done”
