ONDO: between High Court and INEC decision, which will prevail?

Jegede and Jimoh

At last Mr Jimoh Ibrahim gets the backing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State. Also, Mr. Alabi Ebenezer Omotayo was named as his running mate.

Though Mr Eytayo Jegede (SAN) was candidature was withheld by a High Court sitting in Akure, when it restrained the electoral umpire from removing Jegede’s name as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the November 26, 2016 governorship election.

The court ruling was as a result of the Exparte motion one Clement Faboyede and his faction brought before it.

On the contrary, a High Court in the Federal Capital made an initial ruling which ordered the electoral umpire to remove the name of Jegede who happens to be the candidate of the Markafi led faction of the party to Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim of the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the PDP.
