Gradually the truth behind the purported crackdown of some
judges in Nigeria are beginning to unfold.
One of the Nigeria’s respected Justice of the Supreme Court,
Inyang Okoro, has come out to narrate how former governor of Rivers State and
current Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi masterminded the current torment
he is facing.
The details were made known in a letter dated October 17,
2016 which he addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud
Mohammed, the Supreme Court Justice explained that, “I strongly believe that my
travail is not unconnected with the verbal report I made to you on 1st
February, 2016 about the visit to my official residence by H/E Rotimi Amaechi,
former Governor of Rivers State and now Minister of Transportation.
“In that report, I told you my Lord, that Mr. Amaechi said
the President of Nigeria and the All Progressives Congress mandated him to
inform me that they must win their election appeals in Rivers State, Akwa Ibom
and Abia State at all costs.”
However, Justice Okoro, stated how he stood his ground to
defend the nation’s democracy and his noble profession by rejecting the demands
of the government by making sure he was not part of the Akwa Ibom electoral tribunal.
This was because Amaechi and other members of the ruling All Progressive Congress
(APC) members are of the opinion that his presence in the Apex Court
contributed to the failure of the APC in the Akwa Ibom State governorship
election at the Supreme Court.
Thus, urging the NJC to disregard any allegation made
against him because they are all lies, and insisted that that all the money the
DSS took from his house were genuinely earned.
