A 39-year-old bricklayer, who purportedly threw a commercial
sex worker inside a drain after raping her, was yesterday charged under the
watchful eye of an Igbosere Magistrate's Court in Lagos.
The bricklayer, Richard Edet, is confronted with a two-count
charge of stealing and sexual assault placed against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Corporal Friday Mameh, told the court that
the litigant, in the month of June, conferred the asserted offense when he met
the complainant, one Gloria Obihor, at a gathering where he lied to her that he
works with Mobil.
According to him, the litigant unlawfully attacked the
complainant sexually.
Mameh narrated that, “the defendant and the complainant met
again in August at 1004 Estate in Victoria Island and then headed for a bar.
They took a taxi and the defendant pointed at a house and said that was his
residence.
“After they left the bar, the defendant raped the victim,
threw her inside a gutter and stole her property and money. She shouted for
help, but nobody was around to help her.”
The properties that were stolen by the litigant are Samsung
X6 telephone, esteemed at N92,000; Malado wristwatch, esteemed N40,000; aroma
esteemed at N16,000 and a money totalling N13,000.
The complainant saw him at Oniru Beach and raised alert.
Yet, he got away, just to be gotten at Oniru Estate, after he was hit by a vehicle
while attempting to escape once more.
As indicated by him, the offense is culpable under Sections
285 and 259 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.
Be that as it may, the respondent argued guiltlessness to
the two-count charge preferred as a detriment to him.
The Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya allowed him bail in the sum
of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum, who must be employees in a limited
liability company, be citizens and their locations confirmed.
Thereafter, the case was deferred till September 23.
