Twenty-four Nigerians awarded Chinese Scholarships

Chinese Scholarship


In a bid to strengthen the bilateral relationship between China and Nigeria, the Chinese government has awarded 24 Nigerians Scholarships to study in China.

This was made known by Mr. Qin Jian at a send-off party organised by the Chinese embassy for the 24 beneficiaries of the programme.


According to the Chinese envoy, “since 1987, China has provided 700 government scholarships to Nigerian students.”

He further said that “237 Nigerians are currently studying in China under the Chinese government scholarship scheme, apart from the self-sponsored ones.”

Qin termed the gesture as a “great inspiration for our furtherance of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in educational field between Nigeria and China.”

He also used the moment to encourage the students to positively utilise the opportunity and put in good effort to complete their studies without any itch and become very resourceful to their fatherland at the end of their studies.

The Federal Ministry of Information while speaking via the Permanent Secretary, Ms. Ayotunde Adesugba expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for the gesture.

On her part, she also used the opportunity to admonish the students to the good ambassadors of Nigeria and ensure that they make the nation proud by excelling in their studies.

Chikaosu Quincy who is one the beneficiary of the scholarship also expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for given them this rare opportunity to further their educational career.

She stated that, “Though I will be missing my parents, I am prepared to put in my best and do well in school.”

Also speaking, Udo Arinze said that this opportunity is a dream come true to him, stressing that he will put in his best to beat any academic challenge while in China for his studies.
