RIO 2016: Nigeria dream team qualifies for quarter final

Monday morning victory against Sweden in the men’s football even has enabled the Nigeria U-23 team to progress to the quarter finals.

Though so many attempts made by the Nigerian team hit a deadlock, when in the ninth minute into the game three shots attempted by Umar, Etebo and the Mikel Obi (the Captain of the Eagles) failed to hit the net.

Despite all the near misses and heroics of the Sweden goalkeeper, the Eagles finally got the first goal and it was AS Roma youngster, Umar, that got the curtain raiser as he headed Nigeria in front in the 39th minute after a well conveyed cross from Stanley Amuzie.

Similarly, during the second half, the dream team made more attempts to raise the goal tally through Mikel, but he was again denied by an exceptional save from the Swedish goalkeeper.

Coash Siasia in a bid to inject some  freshness into the national team, replaced Sadiq Umar with Aminu Umar, while Kingsley Madu replaced Mike Obi in the 80th minute.

Though, the Swedish team also made several attempts to humble the Nigerian team, the boys held on to the narrow win that has led them into the quarter final.
