BREXIT: The UK is currently perfecting strategy to leave the
European Union (EU) police force.
According to sources, Europol will be the first to
experience 'life after Brexit' after the UK voted to leave the union in June.
Thus, it is the responsibility of UK officials to decide
whether to agree to the new rules to expand Europol’s power or choose to quit
it.
According to Clsude Moraes, a Labour MEP: "The choice
to opt in or out of Europol will be a big political and constitutional test for
the UK, a sort of pre-Article 50 test."
As a result of the terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, the
EU approved new power for Europol, which is to take effect from May 2017.
The agreement was reached prior to the referendum, which now
give more powers to MEP to scrutinize the Hague based agency, while government
of the various member states share information with it.
This agreement has made some to assert that the new rules
would also make it easier to respond to emerging terror threats and make it
faster to get things done.
