It is a popular saying that in politics, there is no permanent friend, no permanent enemies, rather, it is a game of interest.
Thus, today’s visit by Ex-President Jonathan to President
Buhari at the Presidential Villa could be viewed as one of the present
administration’s moves to mend fences with the ex-president, due to the too
many outcry by Nigerians from all walks of life.
Nevertheless, when approached for some comments on the
outcome of the meeting, Jonathan declined making any comment on the current
fight against corruption, which some said is directed against him due to its perceived
lop-sidedness.
According to Jonathan, this is not the right time for him to
make any statement about the cases of corruption levelled against most of his
aids, as most of the cases are still pending in various courts.
Though he said the meeting which lasted less than 20 minutes
afforded him the occasion of briefing Buhari of his current international
engagements and future ones.
On the renewed violence in the Niger Delta, Jonathan said it
was appropriate for him and traditional rulers in the area to mediate in the
matter.
