Maria Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam Champion is not
going to participate in the Rio Olympics as a result of the postponement of her
doping appeal which comes up in September by the Court of Arbitration for sport
(CAS).
A two-year suspension was given to her in the month of June
after she tested positive for to meldonium.
The Olympic is slated to begin 5th August, but more time is
needed for her case to be prepared by the CAS.
Moreover, “Maria Sharapova and the International Tennis
Federation (ITF) have agreed to defer the CAS decision to in September 2016 “.
She was tested positive for meldonium during the Australian
Open in January. The drug was banned on the 1st of January, but she claimed to
have used it since 2006 due to health challenges.
