Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation has
rejected the statement credited to President Buhari that the unity of Nigeria
is not negotiable.
The President made the statement on Wednesday when he warned
the Niger Delta Militants who wants the injustices inflicted against the region
addressed to lay down their arms, emphasizing that the country must be united
at all cost. Meaning, even if it will cost the people of the Niger Delta their
lives and resources to keep the nation as one, he’s ready to do it not minding
the consequences.
However, the National Publicity Secretary of the
organisation, Yinka Odumakin responded to the President’s comment by saying
that Buhari’s government has already divided the country. This assertion may
not be unconnected with Buhari’s lopsided style of administration.
Odumakin however said, “I think the President is a sincere
man but he may not be reading the mood correctly.”
He further stressed that Nigeria is divided under President
Buhari than any other government.
He also said “to continue to insist that the unity is not
negotiable is aping that bird which buries its head in the sand believes,
because it is seeing nobody, it has become invisible too.”
